Frequently asked questions

Winter tyres are compulsory in the Czech Republic from 1 November to 31 March. It is advisable to switch to summer tyres when the outside temperature rises above 7°C.

The minimum tread depth is specified as 1.6 mm for summer tyres and 4 mm for winter tyres.

The regulation sets out the rules for the use of winter tyres during the period from 1 November to 31 March for vehicles, provided there is a continuous layer of snow, ice or frost on the roads, or if such conditions can be expected. The regulation also specifies the tread depth for winter tyres, which is 4 mm. These rules apply to vehicles weighing up to 3,500 kg.

By looking after your tyres properly, you can extend their lifespan so that they serve you well for many thousands of kilometres. The basics of tyre care lie in avoiding obstacles on the road whilst driving, as well as avoiding parking over kerbs. Your driving style can also help maintain tyre quality, whether by minimising sudden braking or rapid acceleration, or by adhering to the tyres’ speed ratings.

Proper tyre pressure helps to prevent tyre damage. If tyres are under-inflated, there is a greater risk of damage to the tyre carcass. Tyre pressure also affects driving comfort and safety.
